    One occasion I have encounter all three scenarios over the years.  I have bought good-looking plants at the market and other nursery retailers only to discover the plants are suffering from “plant stress” caused by various growing and handling conditions, despite my best efforts, the plants die in the garden.

    These hidden plant related issues go unnoticed durning the excitement of shopping, but you can avoid them if you know what to look for.

    • Check for dark stems at base of plant – fungus over moister, watering issues can cause gardening issues.
    • Brush hand over top of blooms, if blooms pop off, plants are suffering from light deprivation; plants been on truck to long. Growers sometimes leave plants on trucks and return to the market with the same load several times vs unloading at greenhouses.

    Plant Stress

    Some growers leave plants on trucks for extended periods of time. This causes sun deprivation, it is evident by darkness at the base stem of the plants. Although they may have pretty top blooms, these plants might experience fungus problems and your summer garden will visually suffer.
