Number of Plants in a Flat – Historically Speaking…
Forty years ago, a flat of bedding plants contained a total of 96 plants. Over time that plant count slowly reduced from 96 plants per flat down to 54 plants per flat, then 48 plants, 36 plants. Today it is 24’s 18 plants, 12 plants, it is not uncommon to find a measly twelve 4″ pots sold as a full flat priced of $10-12 for only 12 plants! 2X your plant count by doing the following…
The thing here is that there are still some 54s and 48s to be found on the flower market. This presents the opportunity to get a 30%-50% immediate cost reduction. You can 2X the flowers you get for your buck.

EMFBG Tip #5
Cold Weather and Plants – No Stunted Plants
I also was amazed at how easy and under cold and low-temperature conditions flowers will actually not die, but grow. I’ve observed rural farmers grow acres of garden plants and flowers by laying simple two pieces of wood (2×4’s) on either side of a flat of bedding annuals and then cover them with a sheet of plastic or white cloth. The young seedling flats of 48s grew even through the cold April and May weather. Believe me, it is super easy to grow your own! NO expensive greenhouse required in some cases!
